Free Website Response Time Checker
Measure DNS lookup, TCP connection, TLS handshake, TTFB, and total response time with a visual waterfall breakdown.
Website speed directly impacts user experience, conversion rates, and search engine rankings. Slow DNS lookups, distant servers, or unoptimized backends all add latency. This tool breaks down response time into DNS, TCP, TLS, TTFB, and transfer phases so you can pinpoint bottlenecks.
How It Works
Enter URL
Type any website URL. We handle HTTP and HTTPS automatically.
cURL Timing
We use cURL to measure each phase of the connection: DNS, TCP, TLS, TTFB, and transfer.
Visual Waterfall
See a breakdown of where time is spent with a visual bar chart and detailed timing table.
What This Tool Measures
Frequently Asked Questions
TTFB measures the time from when the request is sent to when the first byte of the response is received. It includes server processing time and is a key indicator of backend performance. A good TTFB is under 200ms.
DNS Lookup resolves the domain to an IP. TCP Connection establishes the network connection. TLS Handshake negotiates encryption (HTTPS only). TTFB is the server processing time. Content Transfer is how long it takes to download the response body.
Slow DNS can be caused by a distant DNS server, missing DNS caching, or a misconfigured DNS zone. Consider using a fast public DNS like Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or enabling DNS prefetch in your HTML.
For web pages, under 1 second total is excellent, 1-2 seconds is acceptable, and over 3 seconds significantly impacts user experience and SEO rankings. For APIs, aim for under 200ms.
Browser DevTools measure from your local machine and include rendering time. This tool measures from our server, giving you a neutral third-party perspective on your server performance without browser overhead.
If the URL uses HTTP instead of HTTPS, there is no TLS handshake. This phase is only measured for HTTPS connections.
